Budget Autonomous Air Ground System

Budget Autonomous Air Ground System

A low-cost drone and rover pair that share one ArduPilot control stack. The goal is to show that inexpensive off-the-shelf hardware can support coordinated autonomous operation in the air and on the ground. Current work covers tuning each vehicle, keeping telemetry in sync, and testing air-to-ground coordination.

My ArduPilot work on the AESV and the Lab Boat showed how much a strong software stack can get out of low-cost hardware. This project applies that to a synchronized air and ground pair. The challenge is to keep both vehicles cheap without losing GPS, RC failsafes, or autonomous routing. Telemetry also has to stay in sync, and ArduPilot needs separate tuning for flight and for driving. I'm standardizing navigation, telemetry, and mission execution so both vehicles run under one command structure. I'm also testing air-to-ground coordination and routing.
